Our Animals
We have a small cow calf operation meaning that we have the calves born here on the farm- no sale barn calves that can be sickly and require medications for treatment. The calves stay with the cows for the summer and are weaned at approximately 5-6 months. We have a mix of full angus cows and angus cross cows, and we use a registered Hereford bull. This results in a meaty well-muscled calf that produces a wonderful flavor in the meat. We raise our cattle on pasture in the summer supplemented by grass and alfalfa hay that we grow and harvest ourselves. Cattle also have small rations of locally sourced grain to supplement their feed needs. Cattle raised on the farm are very spoiled! They even get "maternity massages"-- back scratches that are happily received by them as they get near calving and cannot reach certain spots! Happy cattle tastes better than stressed cattle. Cattle are antibiotic and hormone free. Limited amount of 100% grass fed/finished beef will be available starting spring 2023.

We raise Cornish Cross chicks sourced from a hatchery in Iowa. Chickens are raised on locally sourced grain and starting in 2022 they will have access to pasture, so the grain will be a supplemental feed. They have access to an indoor barn with access to lots of fresh air and sunlight! Chickens are antibiotic and hormone free.

We raise limited number of feeder pigs each year from spring until fall. They are raised outdoors so they can roll around in the mud and be pigs!
